How are we creating an environment at the university that allows humans to flourish?

Flourishing is more than just feeling good or being happy – it’s about creating the conditions that allow us, our relationships, and our communities to thrive no matter what life tosses our way. It’s about feeling seen, valued, and supported as we navigate the complexities of life and work. In our Human Flourishing Community of Practice (CoP), we come together to explore what it means to cultivate flourishing in ourselves, our teams, and the broader university. This is not a solitary experience but a shared one, rooted in trust, reflection, and the belief that small, intentional actions can create meaningful evolution.

In our gatherings, we listen deeply, exchange ideas, and consider how we might shape environments where people can bring their full selves. We’ve explored questions like: what does it look like to flourish as an individual? How do relationships foster a sense of belonging and growth? How might our institutions evolve to support the well-being of all? Each conversation deepens our understanding and opens pathways for action, whether through small projects, collaborative efforts, or simply how we show up for one another.

As we continue our exploration of how we might work collectively to foster individual, relational, and institutional flourishing, I invite you to reflect on what flourishing means to you. What conditions help you navigate uncertainty and thrive no matter what is happening in your life? How might we, as an ASU community, create spaces where people feel supported, energized, and purposeful? This work is ongoing, shaped by the wisdom of each person who joins us. Together, we are not just imagining flourishing – we are nurturing it into being. We meet on the third Friday of each month. Please reach out to Kaley.bontrager@asu.edu for additional information. We hope you’ll bring your perspective and voice to the conversation.
